Shaker card: a window that moves
How to build an acetate window, the foam spacer and the confetti fill without leaks or crushing.
A shaker card has a clear window filled with confetti or sequins that move when shaken. It looks complex, but it boils down to three layers: background, frame with spacer and acetate.
Supplies
- Card blank
- Frame die (or two dies: outer and inner) — Dies
- Clear acetate — Blister Shaker
- Thick foam or foam tape strips
- Confetti, sequins or beads
- Strong adhesive
Step by step
-
Prepare the background
A decorated layer the size of the window. That is what you will see behind the confetti.
-
Cut the frame and acetate
The frame must match the window. The acetate should be slightly larger than the hole so you can glue it behind the frame.
-
Glue the acetate to the frame
On the back of the frame, with a thin adhesive line all around. No gaps: that is where confetti escapes.
-
Build the foam spacer
Foam strips around the opening, forming a “well”. Foam height is the space where confetti dances.
-
Fill and close
A small pinch of confetti. Peel the foam backing and stick onto the background. Press the perimeter firmly.
-
Add it to the card
Glue the shaker block to the base and add a sentiment or embellishments outside the window.
Practical tips
- Too much confetti hides the background and jams.
- If you use large sequins, increase the foam height.
FAQ
Can packaging acetate work?
Yes, if it is rigid and clear. Clean it well: fingerprints show a lot.
