Your first scrapbooking card
A complete project in one sitting: an A6 base, three layers and a sentiment. Ideal practice without overwhelm.
A card is the best first project: it finishes quickly, uses little material and teaches the same rules as a big layout. This version needs only scissors, adhesive and paper.
Supplies
- A4 cardstock or a precut A6 blank (10.5 × 14.8 cm folded)
- One patterned paper and a matching plain — Patterned Paper
- Double-sided adhesive and foam pads — Adhesive
- A stamp or die-cut sentiment (or hand lettering)
- Scissors and a ruler
Step by step
-
Prepare the base
From A4, cut 21 × 14.8 cm and fold in half (with the grain). Burnish the crease with a bone folder or the back of scissors.
-
Cut the patterned panel
A rectangle 0.5 cm smaller than the front. That leaves a cardstock frame and the card looks finished.
-
Add a plain layer
A second, slightly smaller rectangle in a plain colour. Glue it centred on the pattern.
-
Place the focal point
A die-cut, flower or coloured stamp. Mount it on foam so it casts a shadow.
-
Sentiment last
Stamp or glue the sentiment near the focal point, not in empty centre space. Two or three words are enough.
-
Check edges and tidy
Trim adhesive threads, align layers and you are done. Sign and date inside if you like.
Practical tips
- You do not need to fill every gap. Air around the focal point is part of the design.
- Note the measurements that work: the next card will take ten minutes.
FAQ
Which envelope size?
For A6, a C6 envelope. If the card has a lot of dimension, use a slightly larger envelope or wrap it in cellophane.
