Adhesives, care and storage

Which adhesive to use for each job

Double-sided tape, foam, liquid glue, dots and washi: when each one helps and what to avoid on photos.

The wrong adhesive explains pages that peel, bumps under paper and stained photos. You do not need ten glues: four types cover almost everything.

Supplies

Step by step

  1. Double-sided tape for paper layers

The workhorse. Thin, clean and does not wet the paper. Ideal for panels and photos mounted on cardstock.

  2. Foam for dimension

Lifts the element off the background and creates shadow. Use it on the focal point (flower, sentiment, die-cut), not across the whole page.

  3. Liquid for details and fine dies

Precision applicator on filigree. Little amount: excess warps paper and shows through.

  4. Glue dots for irregular embellishments

Buttons, sequins, bows. They grab instantly on surfaces tape does not cover well.

  5. Never generic glue on original photos

Use copies and acid-free adhesives. School glue can stain and deteriorate over time.

Practical tips

  • If adhesive shine shows through thin paper, use less or switch to corner dots.
  • Store tapes upright or in their box: crushed rolls leak adhesive at the edges.

FAQ

Is washi structural adhesive?

No. It decorates and holds little weight. For large layers use double-sided tape.
